You know that thing where someone's talking about something you agree with entirely... except for the one bit in there that makes you want to yell at them until they realise how wrong they are?
Like when you're talking about TV Show, and they say "Yes, definitely, the best characters on TV Show were Awesome Character, Really Really Fun Guy, and Adorable Person. And that's not to mention the absolute brilliance of Worst Character On The Whole Show who is clearly the best character of all time."
...and you sit there nodding, yep, absolutely, totally, completely agree with you... WHAT? You... what? How on earth can you like that guy? And how can you like him and yet still have almost the same list of favourite characters as me?
That's been happening to me a lot, this week. I'll agree with their whole post - except the bit where they tear my favourite book to shreds. I'll love everything they say - except for this one bit where they say goldfish are better than cats, which is CLEARLY MAD. I'll think they have written the most perfect post of all time - except the paragraph where they turn out to like Luke Skywalker better than Han Solo. (Who does that???)
It's rather confusing.

Date: 2010-12-07 11:28 pm (UTC)Though I seem to recall you making a post about how you don't actually hate any characters in shows you love a while ago...?

Yep. But I'm intentionally fudging on the examples, because a lot of people I'm talking about will be reading this post...

Date: 2010-12-07 11:39 pm (UTC)Me! I had an epic crush on Luke as a child. He was the hero! He had a lightsaber! And really didn't get the whole Han thing. Smuggling=bad. Now I realise how whiny Luke was and appreciate the awesomeness of Han. But there is still a part of me that does still prefer Luke.
*prepares to be defriended* ;D
But, yes. I know exactly what you mean. So confusing.

Date: 2010-12-08 12:22 pm (UTC)On house_cuddy the other day, people happened to talk about HP7 - and they were all clearly H/Hr shippers.
!!!!!
I wanted to say, "But, but, the bickering! The wonderful bickering! HOW CAN IT BE THAT YOU APPRECIATE THE SNARKY GOODNESS THAT IS HOUSE/CUDDY AND YET BELIEVE THAT HERMIONE BELONGS WITH HARRY?"
Put paid to my entire Generalised Theory of Shipping Sociology in one hit, it really did.
(Although, I'll BET they were all teens.)

Date: 2010-12-08 02:19 pm (UTC)(I like Han and Luke about equally, myself. But then they're both part of my OT3. Leia is more awesome than both of them, obvs.)
