I'm not complaining, I'm really not. Because the truth is, that on a weekend when I was horribly sick, my husband took over all the housework and all the kids, without complaining, and did 90% of it perfectly.

It's just...

This morning I got a baffled complaint of "Where are Kidlet Primus's tshirts?" The husband wasn't sure why on earth the wardrobe was completely tshirt-less.

The reason?

Because the husband did all the clothes washing for the last five days. He washed it. He dried it. He folded it beautifully. And then he kinda... left it there. In a basket full of an increasing amount of beautifully folded clean washing, destined to reach to the ceiling before it ever occurs to him to go put the damn stuff away in the cupboards.

I did rather roll my eyes at that question.

My husband has never lived with a dog before.

We're dogsitting for my parents, and I said that, since I can't feed the cat (long story), I should be in charge of feeding the dog. One animal each. The husband agreed.

One day in...

I was in the shower, and the husband came in and asked "What does the dog have for breakfast?" Didn't know why he was asking, so I explained - at which point he turned to the kidlet and said "Okay, let's go feed the dog."

"Darling! The dog's already eaten."
"What? He can't have."
"He definitely has."
"But he's following me around, looking hungry."
"Yes. Because he's a dog."

I'm not entirely sure what he was expecting.

My husband just stopped vacuuming, and said (let me see if I can get this down accurately...) :

Farscape for vacuum cleaners. The broom from the Sorceror's Apprentice looks into the wrong cupboard, finds a Cyberman, and gets turned into a vacuum cleaner. "It's a broom! A living broom!" Hence, Talyn.

Deducting a few points for grammar and general coherence, but... he's awesome. And wonderfully geeky.

Don't you hate it when you have an excellent idea for a blog post, but by the time you actually sit down to post it, you've forgotten what it was? *sighs*

So, random life update:
- Am almost finished with Latin book 5, at which point I will be a (self-described) Advanced Latin Student, ready for such majestic heights as fairytales-in-Latin, Harry-Potter-in-Latin, and short-excerpts-from-classic-Latin-texts-with-the-translation-right-there-in-case-I-get-confused. Very awesome.

- Am feeling very organised, because all my Christmas presents are wrapped.

- The boy is now walking all day, and getting rather adventurous. Fun, but slightly exhausting.

- We are between heatwaves, so having nice sunny weather. Most of my plants have survived so far.

- The husband is now halfway through season 3 of Farscape. He's enjoying it, most of the time.

Hi, everyone! Did you miss me? *puppy eyes*

So... there's this thing I just did... may have mentioned it...

Yep. That.

Last night, the fiance took me to see Swan Lake. Beautiful production, with excellent dancers. And then, on the way home, I looked up the ballet's synopsis online, and discovered that it bore no resemblance whatsoever to the performance I'd just seen - except for the characters' names, and there being a lake full of swans.

Which, I guess you can do with ballet, since you don't need to deal with any lyrics.

It did make for a rather confusing Wikipedia experience for me, though. Kind of like looking up the BtVS season 2 finale and seeing this:
In Whedon's original draft, the battle at the airport was less prominent than it became in the finished episode. Also, originally Buffy attempted to follow Emily's plan, and failed - rather than dismissing the plan outright.

Confusing, no?

Wonderfully fun evening, despite Wikipedia lying to me. Very tired today. Must sleep some more.

The boyfriend is currently walking across England, so I am feeling rather bereft. *pines*

Hopefully I'll find ways to fill up my evenings...

You know, I don't consider myself to be someone who gets hugely excited over gifts. But on the rare occasions that someone brings me flowers, I go all soft and squeeful and spend the next three days smiling at them happily every time I walk past.

This has always been my experience, whether I'm receiving flowers from my mother, or my sisters, or a friend, or the boyfriend. Apparently I really like flowers from my people.

*happy sighs*

fun night

Had a dinner party last night, with some friends from church. Yay!

We had: lasagne, roast potato and pumpkin, beans, and bread (from the breadmaker - with added cheese, parsley, oregano, and "mixed herbs"). All very yummy. I got to use my lovely crockery, and nice placemats and things.

I love getting to do things like that.

The boyfriend, who is lovely, came early and vacuumed my floor, helped make the meat sauce for the lasagne, remembered that we were supposed to put the lasagne in the oven (while I was busy enjoying Buffy episodes), cleaned up the carpet where Elf had vomited all over it, served the lasagne, poured drinks, took away dirty dishes, served ice-cream, put leftovers in my freezer, soaked the lasagne pan... and at the end of the night, gave me chocolates and told me that I'd done a lot and he didn't really feel like he'd helped much. *swoons excessively*

Smudge has a security blanket, in the form of one of his favourite toys: a piece of cord from [personal profile] nimthiriel's pyjamas.

[personal profile] nimthiriel (the housemate) and her husband moved out this weekend, and Smudge spent the whole day walking around looking lost and bewildered, carrying the pyjama cord for comfort. He's spending another week with me, and then moving across to their new place. Elf will miss him... and so will I...

Far too many late nights in a row. I keep falling asleep in odd locations.

On [personal profile] dr_carrot's recommendation, I have started using exciting new shampoo/conditioner/body wash/face cleaner, from MooGoo! So far, I'm enjoying it.

It's apparently called MooGoo because it was invented by dairy farmers using an adapted form of the lotion they put on cow udders to keep them healthy...

This weekend, the boyfriend has helped me nephew-sit, lent me his car to get me home early, started a jigsaw with me, moved furniture for my housemates, eaten my cooking and made yummy noises, held my hand, watched ridiculous tv with me, whispered silly comments during church, listened to all my ridiculous blathering, and patted my cat.

He's terrific.

I really will get all those photos up soon, I promise...

1) Spring is here! Along with lovely spring weather.

2) The boyfriend brought me flowers. Because he's great.

3) Funky country music on my phone. (Yes, that's a GOOD thing.)

4) My hair is getting long!

5) Elf purred at me this morning, and looked happy.

6) Spring! Hurrah for spring!

Awesomest. Boyfriend. Ever.

Just sayin'.

...for the record, I always thought love letters would have more rapturous saccharine admiration, and less fractured messiness.

But I must call this a love letter, because there's nothing else that it can be called.

bad day

The boyfriend has now had conversations with Dad about house renovating, obscure engineering concepts, and ancient history. If he ever decides to take up archery, none of us will get a word in edgewise with Dad ever again...

Fun day, but HOT. Spent quite a bit of it in a swimming pool, wishing I could live there. Came home to my house to discover that my air-conditioning had blown a fuse and not been cooling my house. HOT HOUSE. *whinges*

Josh is now two years old, and enjoyed his party a lot. :)
