character creation
Jun. 28th, 2021 05:43 pmMy six-year-old son is doing what one does when one first creates a fictional character.
She's a superhero.
And a wildlife ranger, who loves animals.
And talks to animals.
And has special wrist communicator gauntlets that help her talk to animals.
And infernal blast powers for attacking baddies.
And radiant shield powers.
And also the radiant shield powers can be used to heal her.
And she's a gymnast.
An OLYMPIC gymnast.
And she's won all the medals of gymnastics.
Pretty soon I reckon she's going to have purple eyes and glossy hair.

Date: 2021-06-29 02:08 am (UTC)If I can identify why mine wasn't a superhero it's probably because any comics I read were related to Doctor Who or Star Trek; did not them, and do not now, go for the knickers outside the tights superhero. Batman was just silly, and I could not think now what other ones I would have been aware of them. Cannot remember a comic shop being anywhere close to where I lived.
My heroes when I was growing up were people like Sarah-Jane Smith on Who & Uhura (wasn't until I started reading the novelisations in the early eighties that I became aware of her first name); also I remember vaguely being aware that most of the people in the Earthseas books were black, and though he was male; so was Genly Ai in The Left Hand of Darkness, and I recall being fascinated by he relationship between him and Estraven; who I saw as female; now I would see her as Trans probably, though they were neither in reality.
Closest analogy would be intersex, though I'm not too sure that's accurate either.
Wonder where my ideas for my first character came from. I was trying to create a female Doctor back in the late eighties. Looking back I can only think of two; maybe three, male original characters I've created.

Date: 2021-07-04 12:48 am (UTC)I was puzzled though, because a lot of the stuff I put in those proto-stories were bits & pieces I'd picked up in classes. Okay so I wasn't 'learning' them, and I certainly didn't remember enough of them when tests & exams came around, but I was using them! ;-)
Which reminds me, I did have Purple hair at one time (did not go down well at work) and my eyes did gloss over a lot when I drifted of into my own world...
