This morning, my radio's news report said "US President…" and I felt myself tense up. And then they continued "…Joe Biden…" at which point I remembered that this was 2021 and relaxed again.

A weird sensation.

Yeah, that happens to me pretty much every day. That frisson of relief is still amazing.

Yeah, it's really hard not to feel that this is just a temporary reprieve, and things will go to hell again imminently.

That former guy is I hope rapidly becoming irrelevant. It's nice to have a competent administration back in the US.

For me, it's waking up in the morning and opening my news apps with that particular kind of "What has he done today?" kind of dread. I mean, not that the news now is much better--it's just as full of terrible things--but I don't have to wake up every morning wondering if democracy is definitively over in my country.
