Snowflake Day 10: write a love letter

Dear Sci-Fi Television,
It took me a while to discover how wonderful you are. But you convinced me.
I love how you make fun things seem possible. Spaceships! Magic! Time travel! Superpowers! Alternate realities! It's so much fun having my imagination take off as I watch the exciting things you try.
I love how you put people in weird situations, and use that to explore real emotions. You place so much value on friendship, sacrifice, redemption, courage, intelligence, and persistence. And you really do care about the hardship that characters go through.
I love how much you let women join in. You make us space explorers, Slayers, mechanics, warriors, thieves, scientists, pilots, and diplomats. We get to shoot things! And solve problems! And stand up to bad guys! And sneak through ventilation systems! And rescue people! And blow stuff up!
I love how you explore what makes us human. I love that you value the personhood of robots with emotions, and people who've lost their memory, and alien entities, and anything and everything that could possibly feel or think at all. I love how you tell us that life is valuable, and should be treated that way.
I love how you feel compelled, for the rest of time, to make subtle Star Trek jokes. Because that's awesome.
Yours, forever,
Mez

Date: 2021-01-21 07:52 pm (UTC)I watched Red Dwarf growing up, but my family didn't really watch any other sci-fi. I only came across it at uni when my friend heard that I hadn't seen Firefly and forced the DVD into my hands.
