Snowflake Day 5: promote a canon

For this challenge, I thought I'd take a minute to tell you all about my most recent TV discovery: Dark Matter.

This show is by one of the Stargate writers, which is how I noticed it. It's also (so far) entirely awesome.



The premise goes something like this:

Somewhere in the galaxy, on a far-future spaceship, a bunch of humans wake up from stasis, without their memories. They have no idea of who they are or why they're there – and they name themselves after the order in which they woke up.


Our main characters are:

One – the optimistic idealist, who sees the best in everyone (especially himself)

Two – the leader (and main woman in the cast)

Three – basically Jayne Cobb

Four – samurai sword-fighting, die-with-honour guy (who is dishonourable, thoroughly untrustworthy and likely to stab you in your sleep)

Five – teenage girl, who's very good with technology

Six – strong silent type (and actually quite nice)

Android – supposed to be an emotionless robot; actually more like Kryten (in that she gets jealous, worried, etc)



They spend a lot of the time flying around the galaxy, trying to figure out who they are, and trying to avoid the many, many people who want them dead for reasons they can't remember.

It's really fun! And well-worth checking out if you're a sci-fi fan.

I haven't come across that yet it sounds really interesting, I'm all into sci-fi shows but haven't found anything lately that I could get I to enough to want it to be me a fandom.

Dark Matter is on my list! My forever growing list, but my list nonetheless. I used to follow one of the main writers on it (from SG1) and it looked fun. Maybe 2021 is my year for Dark Matter! After I finish the expanse

I like the female characters on Expanse (especially Shohreh Aghdashloo), and I like how each character seems to have something else going on (except Holden who seems like a stupid leader puppy). And I like that the show doesn't seem to be scared about killing characters. Usually I don't like character deaths but I feel like with the expanse because anybody can die, it's okay?? IDK. In one of the first episodes I was like "This dude ... I like him I feel like I've seen him bef.....okay and he's dead." and it happened again with another character. Suddenly the urgency of the side characters is more real; as opposed to shows like SPN that just killed people for the sake of death and then the boys went off on another hunt/had a beer, these deaths have immediate response and reaction. There are repercussions to these deaths.

I also like that we have this universe where there are three groups that each want the right to live, and it also feels like a slow burn who done it. The first season was what happened to the girl and the Canterbury, now in season two it feels like ... okay we know what happened now why? And the fact that this little band of four can't trust anyone on the two main sides and can't really trust each other.

I think that if I weren't binging it in chunks I wouldn't have enjoyed but, but I watched season one of the course of like 3 days.

For me it is definitely a binge show, I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much week by week. But now I feel like I could do the weekly episodes because I'm invested.

I watched a good amount of Dark Matter, but I stopped at some point in time. Might have been right around the season change, but I remember liking what I was watching at the time.

So annoying when things I love get cancelled! I've still got two seasons to go, however, so I'm savouring every moment.

Dark Matter doesn't get enough love! It is super fun! I wish there was more of it.

Have you seen Another Life on Netflix? I liked that one.

I'm a big fan of Killjoys on SyFy; I thought that one was really fun. Especially the first season.
