The smoke in Melbourne is now bad enough that I've ordered reusable facemasks for the entire family. FUN.

Keeping the kids inside today, away from smoke and exercise. This involves lots of television. (The alternative would be the entire house getting torn apart by kidlets with too much energy.) A shame, but there it is.

Also, the sun is now at the point where you can look at it, eclipse-style. I've been closing curtains so that the kidlets don't stare and accidentally blind themselves...

It's really bad. I am glad my son had holiday program - they were mostly indoors but did go to the swimming pool so he burned off some energy.

I just caved and turned the air conditioning on very low - the house was heating up as the western sun hit the back, and there is a limit to what the curtains can do, dammit. Mind you I woke up in the night going "there's a fire, I can smell smoke.." so it's not like the house doesn't already smell of it anyway.

At least we're not in Canberra.

I'd been thinking of you and wondering what it was like for you. Your Dawn icon seems like the appropriate reaction to the whole thing.

We've got the haze down in Geelong but luckily the smell isn't really there. Poor kids having this through summer holidays

I'm looking at reusable masks, but we bought a ton of disposable ones in the US, so maybe the smoke will have evaporated by the time the household runs out?

But I'm very over this. I've developed a cough, I'm going stir crazy from having the house closed up, and part of me wants to decamp to the nearest shopping centre, but (a) that will inevitably end in me spending money; (b) it's a really long walk to that bus.

Oh dear ghod. I've been thinking and wondering how you've been doing as I've seen the footage come out.

It's so painful. Here's hoping for an end soon. Also, stay safe.

I remember my friends and family were doing the same thing in California and Washington State during the Wildfires over the past two summers.

Don't feel badly about the tv! Being stuck indoors with kids for extended periods is always hard. Thank goodness for television!

What a horrible situation. I'm so sorry.

I hope things get better soon.

*Hugs*
