birthday weekend

So, we've decided to go low-key with the kidlets' birthdays this year. No big party.

Instead:
- We will have a special dessert on Kidlet Secunda's birthday on Thursday.
- We will have a special dessert on Kidlet Primus's birthday on Friday.
- We will make and decorate gingerbread stars for Kidlet Primus to take to kinder and hand out to his class.
- We will go to the zoo on Saturday, taking one friend each.
- We will take fairy cakes to the zoo, to have a picnic party.
- We will have family over on Sunday, for pizza and birthday cake. I will make and decorate a cake from the Women's Weekly Birthday Cake Book, to have at the party.


I am beginning to suspect that I don't quite get how "low-key" works.

That does sound like a lot of baking. Which cake is it? My mother made a lot of those for me when I was a kid. Happy birthday to your Kidlets.

It's the fishbowl one, except that I'm making it a rectangle and doing an "under the sea" thing.

Hahaha....As I went down the list I was starting to think that I had a very different definition of low-key, to you... ;-)
Have fun with all the desserting and baking and zoo and visitors!
Will it be one cake for both kids? Which one?

One cake for both, yes. I'm doing an "under the sea" cake. I found a fishbowl one in the book, with lots of lolly ideas for fish, seaweed, rocks, etc. :)

It's from their "Bumper Book": a much larger version containing most of the classics from the original and quite a few from the second edition.

I didn't know there was a second edition- there you go.
We grew up with THE classic book, and I got my own copy of the reprint- but they've removed some of the classic cakes! Tsk.
I don't think any childhood was/ is complete without at least one WW birthday cake...

My mum still has the original, so I can source the few cakes that aren't in my book.

WW birthday cakes are an essential part of childhood.
