Buffy: Gryffindor
She’s noble, she’s heroic, and she goes around sacrificing things to save the world.

Willow: Ravenclaw
Miss “I thought I’d hack into the city council’s security system just to see if I could” Rosenberg herself. In pursuit of knowledge, even when it’s a bad idea.

Xander: Hufflepuff
So very much so.

Giles: Slytherin
The man killed Ben. He’s into “doing what needs to be done”, whether it’s strictly moral or not.

Angel: Ravenclaw
An extremely studious person, for a vampire. Even when soulless, one of his first actions is to track down a whole pile of books and thoroughly research the person he’s about to fight.

Wesley: Gryffindor
Noble action man! Let’s watch, as he nobly kidnaps Faith to take her back to the Watchers Council! And as he nobly kidnaps a baby to save his friend from peril! And as he nobly kidnaps a woman, to keep her captive until she helps him find his friend!
The man is very into dramatic, self-sacrificing gestures.

Faith: Hufflepuff
Seriously! She’s a hard-working person who puts loyalty above all else. When she’s working for the Mayor, she will do anything for him. When Angel has rescued her, she will do anything for him. And the reason she gets so horribly anti-Buffy is because she feels (I think) like Buffy has betrayed her – and has also taken all the glory, as Gryffindors are so wont to do.

Oz: Ravenclaw
“Hmm. Buffy can read my mind. Let me ponder the philosophical implications of this…”

Tara: Hufflepuff
She wants everyone, ever, to be part of the gang. And will do lots of quiet background work to make sure everything goes well.

Cordelia: Slytherin
As first demonstrated by her driving her car to the library (very sensibly), rather than walking, as anyone less straightforward would have done.

Dawn: Ravenclaw
The girl taught herself Sumerian.

Spike: …?
This is the one that stumps me. Either he’s a Gryffindor who’s in the habit of behaving like a Slytherin, or he’s a Slytherin who secretly longs to be a Gryffindor. But I can’t tell.

I'm not hugely into Buffy/Angel anymore, but...I'm not gonna argue with any of this.

I think that William (before he became 'the bloody') would have been a Gryffindor. But Spike reads to me as a Slytherin (practicality first) - although he can't entirely resist the siren call of the big, dramatic heroic gesture.

I am with you on almost all of these, except that I think Angel is Slytherin. Partly because he's a little lazy for a Ravenclaw (more before he becomes a vampire, but still), and he does think of things in terms of who has power over whom, whether he's got his soul or not.

And I think Spike is a Hufflepuff with a Gryffindor kink trying to pretend he's a Slytherin because he thinks it makes him seem more evil and badass. He's deeply loyal and a secret romantic who loves grand, bold, possibly suicidal gestures, you know? He tries to pretend he cares about power and manipulation, but he really doesn't.

This, I agree with.

Having just read the Buffy comics, and some of the Angel & Faith, and re-watched some of S2.

Spike is all about being loyal to whomever he's with. He and Faith are sort of simpatico in some ways. He is insanely loyal to whomever he cares about -- Dawn gets sick? He drops everything to help her, regardless of whether there's a huge battle on the horizon. Angel needs saving? He saves him.
Dru? Crazy? He'll help her. Spike trying to be Slytherine -- because hello, his mentor is Angelus, but he's Hufflepuff.

Spike and Faith - same house.

Angel and Cordelia -- same house.

Angel is manipulative and vain, but also heroic and clever. Slytherine is not pure evil after all. He's not smart enough for Ravenclaw. (Has a tendency towards catering towards authority.) He and Cordelia are very similar.

I'd have also put Wes in Syltherine for similar reasons.

I think I've seen people argue for a Slytherin Willow, because hacking and magic are also power + ambition for her, not only knowledge for its own sake.
Whatever Spike is, there would have to be some Slytherin or Hufflepuff in the mix because of how loyal he is to his own. I could see it as a Slytherin loyalty -- not to a whole group, but to his select people. And he can be manipulative, and I'd say there's some ambition involved with the whole Slayer of Slayers thing, so a dash of Slytherin seems to make some sense than dash of Puff.
