Five Movies I Will Rarely Admit To Loving

deird1(I am wearing a purple jacket, bright green socks, a beanie, and a blue and orange tshirt with "Obey Gravity IT'S THE LAW" on it. Geeky teens in high school movies could take fashion tips from me.)
A while ago I wrote about TV shows I rarely admit to loving. It occurred to me last night that I could make a similar list of movies.
5) Deep Impact
Everyone else might have been distracted by Armageddon, but I liked this version way better. Much less of Bruce Willis blowing things up in space, and much more of a serious look at what people are like.
It's probably just another hokey disaster movie really, but I watch it, love it, tear up over the teenagers getting married to save her life, and the astronauts getting schools named after them, and the mother letting her baby go, and... everything.
It's a wonderful movie, it really is.
4) James Bond
...all of them.
Yes, they're ridiculous. Granted. But it's nice to occasionally have villains who are not complex and possibly right: they're villains because they really like being evil. They have evil laughs! They pat cats menacingly! They kill Bond girls by painting them gold! They're so FUN!
Plus - explosions.
3) Little Women
The Winona Ryder version. It's sappy and probably fairly boring, but I love it.
And I cry every time I see Beth die. *sniffles*
2) Jurassic Park
This... is a special case.
You see, I love the movie. With all the dinosaurs, and the running and screaming, and the hokey jokes. It's really fun!
But even more, I love...
The "making of" special feature.
It was the first CGI animals! And they figured out how to make real-looking dinosaurs! And changed cinema history! And all the animal sounds for the roaring! And the cup of water on a guitar! And superimposed faces! WOOOOOO!
(Yes, I'm a nerd.)
1) The Parent Trap (remake, not the original)
It's my favourite movie of all time.
I could talk about how it's such a clever take on the original movie, and how they are riffing on their own scenes and using the expectations of the original movie fans to surprise them in the new movie... but that's not why I love it.
I love it because it's cute, and silly, and has the servants falling in love in such a dumb way, and Lindsay Lohan putting her hair up and pretending to be tipsy, and mistaken identities, and the evil stepmother, and lots of silly pranks, and clueless parents...
*sighs in delight*
I really do love it. And I can quote every single scene.
Also? Best screen kiss. EVER.
...and that's all.

Date: 2010-12-17 10:44 am (UTC)I generally enjoy James Bond, although apparently I'm not a "true" fan since I remember thinking Timothy Dalton was an excellent Bond and I enjoyed "Licence to Kill" as much as "Goldeneye", also I've only seen a couple of the old Connery ones.
Jurassic Park is great fun. I have that sort of thing — the enjoying-of-special-features — with a few films, for a variety of reasons. I love the design work on Lord of the Rings, and the historical stuff that you get with old epics like Ben-Hur and Gone With The Wind is fascinating.
And I remember enjoying the Parent Trap remake as a kid. I also enjoyed the Love Bug movie with Lohan.
I don't really have any guilty pleasure movies — I don't care enough about what people think of me. Whether that's a good thing or not is debatable.
