Post-Makeout Discussion
“So, clear something up for me.”
They’re ten minutes into their walk, and Lois figures if she doesn't break the ice now, they’ll keep being silent all the way through dinner. Clark’s still looking nervous, even after their makeout session in the supply room.
“Okay,” he says, cautiously.
“Ollie knows, right?”
“Err… yes.”
“And presumably Chloe knows.” She thinks she’s on pretty firm ground with this one.
“Yes. Chloe knows.”
“So, who else is there? Other than your mom and Lana? And Carter, obviously.” She drops that one in a bit smugly – and Clark looks appropriately startled. He doesn’t comment though - just takes a deep breath and starts in on the list.
“Err… Well, Kara, and Pete from school, and a few other superheroes, and, um, Lex.”
“Lex?” That one surprises her.
“Yeah, he… Oh.” He looks at her apprehensively, and says, “And Zatanna knows, too.”
The hottie in the fishnets? She starts to respond, but Clark grits his teeth and preempts her with “She’s my FRIEND, Lois. JUST my friend. Oh, also Tess knows.”
“Tess?” Lois was willing to be high-minded on the subject of scantily clad magicians, but– “Tess?! Seriously? TESS knew?”
“Lois, I–” Clark puts his hand on his face and huffs in frustration. She can feel a really good argument raring to go, but he takes a breath and says, calmly, “I didn’t tell Tess. Or most of the others. And my superpowers don't include memory erasure.”
He’s incredibly irritating when he's being this reasonable.
He looks at her carefully, and continues, “The others, they know about me because of random chance. But I chose to tell you because I wanted to. That makes a difference, Lois.”
Okay, so she’s a big softy and this makes her smile. She grabs his lapels and says, “If you think you're getting off that easily, mister…” but he’s over his nerves now, so he just puts his hands in his pockets and grins at her.
They keep walking, a little more comfortable now.
They’re almost at the restaurant when Clark clears his throat and says, “Um, on that subject…”
“Mmm?”
“How long have you known? About me?”
“Seriously?” Lois raises an eyebrow and says, “Smallville, you have a VERY recognisable kiss.”
He actually blushes. And says, “Ah. Right.” He’s damn cute when he’s flustered.
Lois says pointedly, “Of course, if you and Ollie – that was Ollie, right? – would stop covering for each other’s secret identities, I would have figured it out WAY earlier.”
“Chloe.”
“What?”
“That was Chloe covering for me. But point taken.”
There’s more to discuss, but they’ve got plenty of time, so Lois gets most of the way through her burger before asking about various life-saving incidents. And they’re almost home before they get into what, precisely, his superpowers are. And, would you believe it, it’s not until breakfast the next morning that the alien thing comes up. She says “Aliens? Really? HOW is this not the first thing you mention?” and flings a washcloth at him – because honestly – but he’s suddenly standing behind her handing it back to her smugly, and as she kisses him, she realises that it’s already starting to feel almost… normal.
And she can live with that.
