The thing that most annoyed me in the whole of Endgame:

Five years after the Snap, and someone at Captain America's support group talks about missing professional sports.

...seriously?

You're telling me that, three weeks after the world's population was reduced by 50%, they wouldn't have rescheduled games around the reduced number of players, to keep professional sports going no matter what?

Five years later – FIVE YEARS – and there are still no professional sports going?




Not. A. Chance.

Obviously the writers do not assume people and corporations value sports that much. Also, they are not Melburnian.

Yeah, despite being a non-sporty person, I'm still a Melburnian. Sport seems to be really important round these parts.

What amuses me is the idea that if 50% of Melbourne's population suddenly vanished in some weird Rapture style event we would still have organised sporting competitions... within about 6 months max. Because grieving, and horror, and a desperate need for normality, even a totally abnormal form of it. One of the weirdest realizations of Lock down for me is just how much local sport plays into the fabric of the community - I grew up in the country, so it was always there in the background, but the quiet, dark ovals because there's no midweek training sessions really threw me. So yeah, I could see a revamped AFL up and running relatively quickly, along with local competitions.
Would help if we'd do that with the Yartz as well though..

One hundred percent -- "Oh, we've lost 50% of the AFL? WELP, time for that AFL/VFL merger the die-hard nostalgics have been wanting. Or should we just cut the ladder by half and force clubs to merge? Either way, it's gonna be bad, because we are the AFL and clusterfucks are our specialty!"

Cue civil war as fans man the barricades against forced mergers and push for a combined MAFL/WAFL to keep the clubs going. "We play mixed netball, we can do mixed footy!!"
