deird1: Mother Gothel, swooning dramatically (Gothel swoon)

Today I'm getting to witness Germans at their most wimpy.

It is, you see, a terribly hot day, and they're all worried about surviving the awful heat.

...of 30 degrees. *faints dramatically at such dreadfully warm weather*

(Americans: this is 86 Fahrenheit)

I'm just going to sit here in my non-air-conditioned house, happily lettting the wonderfully cool breeze waft fresh summer air through every room. Later, I might go for a walk.

(Note my lack of blocking up every door and window, blasting air-conditioned coolness into every corner, stocking up on icecubes, realising some rooms are a lost cause and blocking them off so the air-con can cope with a smaller space, wishing I could remove several layers of skin, sleeping naked on the floor of the living room, and cowering from the horrible skin-searing sun. Because this is not Australia.)

Remember the knife scene from Crocodile Dundee? Right now, I feel kinda like that. "You call that summer? THIS is summer."

I would snicker at them, but I figure they probably would feel the same way about a Melbourne winter.

I was about to say--I'd mock, but I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather.

Ah c'mon...30C isn't exactly fun weather over here, either. :-p
True, 30C is hardly 36C or 38C or even 40C, but still, I would rather not be in it, no matter which country I'm in. :-)
When the weather slowly warms up and 30C is the first taste of 'hot' that we get, I'm sure you're right up there complaining about it, too. :-p
(btw, how are you doing in the 'heat', with bub?)

PS- I love how everyone misquotes that movie...he actually says "THAT'S a knife", not "THIS...is a knife". Which always confused me, as he wasn't pointing to it, he was holding it, so 'this' would surely have been correct. Hmm.

I lived in Vegas, where a balmy summer day was about 118 degrees Fahrenheit and an average summer day hovered around 125. 86? That's practically parka weather.

Mmm. Yeah, laugh away, Aussie. :p

Just the death rate will shoot up among over 70s for these few days across northern Europe, because people aren't used to it. Honestly. Especially if temp stays up about 20 degrees overnight. I know it's not Australia-hot, but that tells you people aren't exaggerating the discomfort they're in. I guess we're probably calibrated to about 10 degrees less than you? Humans: we are creatures of habit.

When I lived north of here, 86 would be a hot day. I hated heat -- I'm still not fond of it, but I can deal with it now. (By the way, if you ever do end up in Michigan in winter, I have a feeling the laughter will be going the other way.) Now it's... well, it depends. What's the humidity? Does it feel like a sauna when you step outside?
