Doctors seem to warp the space-time continuum just by going to work.

Showed up at the local medical centre at 8 (when it opens) this morning, and asked about an appointment. Was given an appointment for 8 - "once the doctor arrives".
The doctor showed up for his starts-at-eight-o'clock job at 10 past.
...it's now 25 to 9 and I'm still waiting.

It's not like he's been held up by previous patients, or anything. I'm his first patient! And yet, here I am, waiting impatiently, while he... presumably reads a novel or something.

What type of doctor? Because he could be dealing with hospital callbacks. Which stil means, he should start office hours later then.

Nothing worse than a mismanaged office.

Yeah, this was my experience when I worked for a GP--they're being pulled in a dozen directions at once and swimming madly against the tide to keep up. But if they're late already at the start of the day, it's only going to get worse...and someone should be planning so it doesn't get like that.
I'm sorry for the fuckery, Deird, and hope you got to see the man pretty soon!

Oh FFS. Sorry that doctor's keeping you waiting. Like the others said, he probably needs better office management.

What's worse is when you wait for so long (I had over an hour's wait once, with an unhappy baby on my lap), and...no apology. No 'sorry to keep you waiting'. Even if they don't really mean it, an apology and acknowledging that you've spent time waiting for them when you were there punctually, is surely a simple thing to utter. :-/

My guess would be: he was liaising with specialists; doing over-the-phone prescriptions and referrals etc etc.

Which doesn't make it any less frustrating...
