If someone had told me, eight years ago, that one of my Important Aunty Duties would be to express unalloyed delight – along with exclamations of "Wow!" and "Well done!" – when a nephew rang me up purely to tell me proudly that he'd done "a big wee", I would have thought they were insane.

Now, I just consider it normal.

Tonight I received my own jelly bean amid loud accolades of "well done mum! Good boy for doing a wee!" The rest of the restaurant enjoyed that one. At least he didn't make me do the wee dance right there and then (yes, there's a dance. Your next auntie duty shall be to learn it)

Just try not to be in the house when he's potty training and calls out "I'm finiiiiiished!", so you can come and help with that. ;-)

Just out of interest, at what age does the pee-on-your-own happen? With a 6-months old bub I'm hoping it's very, very, very soon. I can't imagine another year or more of constant nappy-washing (and rashes).... :-/

Well, that's a shame, because another year you've got... ;)

Nathan is two and a half, and just toilet training now. From memory, he's fairly typical. Long before their bladder muscles are up to scratch, they'll be able to:
- walk
- talk
- pull down their pants
- pull down an old nappy
- pull up a new nappy
- let you know when a nappy needs changing

Somewhere between the age of 2 and 4, they'll start having enough bladder control to start toilet training. Then, you'll have a couple of months of general frustration, a week or two of ABSOLUTE HELL, followed by a lifetime of blissful nappylessness.

...really? Ah bugger. I was hoping that once bub is walking around, she'll be clean too. Hmm.

Since we have cloth nappies, I can't see bub unfastening an old one and fastening a new one, on her own... :-/
I've been doing sign language with her for a few weeks now, so hopefully she'll start to copy in a few months, and understand how to tell me when she wants a clean nappy. :-)
