Apparently the US ambassador is complaining about Aussies pirating Game of Thrones.

*rolls eyes*

For the benefit of His Ambassadorship and other uninformed people - here is what I would have to do to watch Game of Thrones:
- Buy a subscription to Foxtel to watch payTV! Woo! $70 a month to watch one show! That's... what? $16 an episode? Score!
- Watch them on Netflix or Hulu! Awesome! ...for all of five seconds, until I remember that I live in Australia and *headsmack* oh yeah, we can't use those.
- Wait for the dvd. Generally, dvds come out about two years after a season of tv airs in America - if things go well. So, only a couple of years to avoid spoilers and stay off the internet. That's not hard, right?
- Piracy.

In other words, ambassador? Give me an easy way to pay, and I will. Otherwise - stuff off. I'm trying to watch telly.

I love how they complain about people pirating stuff to which they have no legitimate access. Oy vey.

I have no comment to your post, really (except to say: yes, legitimate, all that you say. If there isn't a way to access something, then you really can't complain when people pirate it.)

I work right next to the Australian embassy and today on the way to work there were these two women in full uniform (Australian military dress, maybe? or police?) standing and chatting at the crosswalk and they were awesome. They had the hats that curled up on one side with a big gold pin and belts and shiny braid and patches and both of them had long hair up in these tight buns under the hats. I knew they were from Australia because the patches said so, and also, accents (to me). :)

And, while I'm on a roll - congrats on your engagement and all that!!! I saw whilst lurking while at work (definitely no posting from there) and haven't managed to get online enough to post on a related post... but yay! go you! fun exciting things ahead! and all the wild wedding planning adventures! have so much fun!

YES! JUST LIKE THOSE!!! And the little strap went right across their faces and chins, which actually looked really uncomfortable, but they were rocking it.

True fact: People who download Game of Thrones are more likely to buy the series on DVD. Or something like that.

Embarrassing fact: I was ranting about this to my flatmate last night, and she looked slightly ashamed and said, "I just found out today that you can buy Game of Thrones from the Australian iTunes store the same day it airs in the US."

And then we tried to calculate how much we'd save by cancelling our Rapidgator subscription and buying iTunes cards instead.

Good to know American officials continue doing their two jobs: working for big business and embarrassing us all around the world.

Yeeeaaaaahhh...I apologize for our politicians. We try not to let them out of their boxes very often. Look what happens when we do.

If it's any consolation, it's a bitch and a half to get Game of Thrones here if you don't have HBO. They are very proprietary, so if they're even on Netflix and Hulu, it's news to me. And the DVD box sets are hellaciously expensive.

So. Mom's already torrenting Season 2 for when I get home.
