Flist, I need to be stern with you.

I rely on your wondrous wisdom in finding me new television. In the past, you have been very helpful in this regard. You have led me to many new shows, such as Sarah Connor Chronicles, Heroes, Warehouse 13, Dresden Files, Avatar, Battlestar Galactica, Community, Castle, and Leverage. This has been a valuable service, and I appreciate it.

So. WHY did no-one mention the Murdoch Mysteries? Not once have I heard effusive praise, episode reviews, or even icon posts! What is going on?! Why haven't you mentioned this spectacular dream of a show to me???

So... Murdoch Mysteries. Best crime show this decade, or best crime show ever?

For those of you who have failed to encounter this gem - and hence failed to enthuse at me (I haven't let you off the hook yet) - it's a crime show, with a Canadian detective and a forensics team, solving murders throughout Toronto... in the 1890s. When forensics involves this newfangled invention called fingerprints, and even the occasional telephone call!

It's so much fun.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a whole lot of tv to watch.

Sorry. I didn't know you didn't know. You might not realise that there is a three part series made about 3 years before "Season 1" of the regular cast.

For me, TV is mostly something that happens to other people ... and yet Murdoch Mysteries is great.

Canadian TV does not get much out-of-country recognition, probably because most of it isn't great. It's so nice seeing something set here that's both good and exactly what I'm interested in.

Oh, thank you for mentioning this! I lived in Toronto for almost a decade and have lived in southern Ontario all my life, and two of my grandparents were born in Toronto in the 1920s, so I'm really interested in this.

Geez! Sorry - I found the show entirely by accident, and I rarely think to do tv recs.

You know about Slings and Arrows, right? Speaking of Canadian TV that didn't get as much play outside of Canada as it deserved. In fact, you should probably flip quickly through Paul Gross' acting catalogue, because there's a lot to like there.
