In retrospect, I really should have bought the butter-menthols.

My night so far consists of waking up every half-hour or so to vomit. Then trying to find yet another butter-menthol substitute around my house...

(Does the rest of the world have butter-menthols? They're cough drops - containing butter and menthol - and are really good for soothing sore throats.)

The interesting bit? I'm not actually sick.

I was sick, a couple of days ago, with a cold. In which, courtesy of a stuffy nose, I ended up with post-nasal drip - which is where you have snot dripping down the back of your throat and irritating you into coughing.

I also (if you recall) have had whooping cough in recent memory. Which means my throat is slightly more sensitive than it should be. So, slight cough became bigger cough, which has now progressed to REALLY HORRIBLE cough that wakes me up every half-hour... originally just to cough and feel lousy, but now I'm actually throwing up from coughing too much.

I need butter-menthols, or similar (used up the cough syrup this morning). I don't have any - but I've already explored the full range of stuff available in my house, from lemsip, to asthma puffers, to soothing drinks, to, most recently, just big spoonfuls of honey. Hopefully it'll calm my throat down enough to last until 7am, when the shops open.

I'd considered buying butter-menthols yesterday, actually, but shrugged and decided I could always get them when I needed them. Hah.

*pets you* I'm sorry, sweetie. The honey should have helped a bit. I hope you get your cough drops (and maybe a cough med refil?) soon and can get some rest. Feel better soon.

Rum or Whiskey, hot (not boiling) water, honey and a little butter. Anythsatises the throat and provides a protective coat to replace the mucal lining removed by the coughing.

Ugh, hope you get better soon. I hate it when the cough outlasts the sickness.

Hi,

my favourite thang to do - when I used to get colds *note to self, post about that sometime* was to get some of the very thick honey; some really good single malt whisky, butter & worcester(shire) sauce. Boil the water, adding the other ingredients as they suit.

Does nothing to cure the cold, but it sure as hell made me feel better!

:-)
LOL Ray.

ps. could use advice on cooking with squashes; not being a recipe book person (can't follow instructions, and I have a real deep-seated psychological problems with forms etc...).

Augh. D: I hope you feel better soon.

Irrelevant: I've never heard of butter menthols. They sound very useful - the typical cough drop here is full of enough sugar to try to make the menthol taste pepperminty rather than menthol-y, and "tastes like a cough drop" is a widely-used standard for "tastes awful."

I have never heard of butter menthols, but I sure hope you acquire them and feel much better very soon.

Nasal spray will help with the post nasal drip if you still have any from the last time I fixed your medical issues! Also you could see if ventolin helps with the cough, might make your airways less reactive.

Sorry you feel so crap, and hopefully you're stocked up with butter menthols now. For future reference, the Coles up on Blackburn Rd/Burwood Hwy is open 24 hours, and I'm pretty certain that includes public holidays.

Don't believe I've heart of butter menthols. Menthol we have, just never mixed with butter. *is curious*

Either way, I do hop you begin to feel better and get lots of lovely rest. *smish*

I started to post about it possibly being Whooping Cough and then re-read and saw that you'd already had it. I hope you're feeling better now!

Just FYI, if I were in your situation I'd have looked for a petrol station that was 24 hour; they usually have cough lollies.
