Day 1:

This is Josh.

My parents had their annual New Year's Day barbecue, and all four nephews were there, having a wonderful time. I took several photos of Josh playing with this weird turtle-y toy - and mentally thanked the inventor of the digital camera: it allowed me to see how badly the first six photos had turned out, so I knew to take more...

Day 2:

This is my church, techically called St Barnabas, but known to most people as GWAC (pronounced "Jee-Whack"). I took the photo during our music rehearsal - I was playing piano that evening - which is why nothing much is happening.

Day 3:

Elf, licking Smudge.

I was going to get a photo of Elf lying on my bed, but Smudge jumped up halfway through, and Elf instantly tackled him to the bed and started licking his face. I decided that was more interesting than my idea.

Day 4:

My desk at work (I'm back at work! Woe!) and its collection of spaceships.

Only two, actually: the third one is a Skutter, from Red Dwarf, whose function is to run around the ship cleaning things. Why the Skutter is twice the size of Starbug is best left to the imagination. Shrinkrays or something?

Day 5:

This is my current cross-stitch. And no, it's not that series of three photos set in the bush - despite at least six people having seen it and instantly assumed that's where the picture's from. This is a completely original picture by someone who was probably wanting to get the bush photos without paying copyright...

As you can see, I still have a lot of stitching to do.

Day 6:

The entrance to China Town, in the middle of Melbourne. I took this on my lunch break.

Note the lights in the street behind it. (China Town is remarkably pretty.)

Day 7:

Today at lunch I wandered up to the State Library, with its wonderful reading rooms and its complete lack of books I want to read.

I took many interesting photos, not at all like this one - but on my way out I noticed that one of the side galleries (there are several) was hosting an exhibition on illustrating children's books. Quite interesting! And fun suddenly coming across illustrations for a book I grew up with.

That's all for this week...

I am always most impressed by people who do cross-stitch.

Josh is gorgeous - as are Elf and Smudge in a slightly different way.

I am fascinated by the decorations in the library - the way the pained things at the bases of the pillars seem to then move off the pillar and into the room.

That's a very impressive cross stitch, good luck with that.

And Josh and the kitties are quite adorable, I see the cats are getting along despite the food stealing issue.

*suspicious*

That turtle plays a tune, doesn't it? I think I have been tortured by it before.

The book illustration exhib looks fun.

No tune - just push, push, push, push, push on the coloured buttons and the turtle's head pops out; whereupon you announce "done", push the head in and do it all again...and again...

I went to the SLV recently, for the first time since my student days...and didn't find any pretty reading rooms! All I found was giant open areas where I'd have to sit at tables with random strangers to read my books; computer stations; one art gallery. Should have gotten a guide or something.
:-(

PS: What, no DRD to match your Skutter? :-o Then you could play size-comparisons all over again!

Josh is a total cutie.

That cross stich is very impressive.

I love children's book illustrations. That exhibit would have been right up my alley.
