watching The Two Towers...
Jan. 24th, 2014 12:25 pm1) Legolas: "The White Wizard approaches."
Aragorn: "Do not let him speak. He will put a spell on us."
...and then the White Wizard approaches, and speaks. And they suddenly realise it's Gandalf! (Which can't be a spell, no way. Just because they saw Gandalf die, and they thought this guy was Saruman, and his first words were "I am Saruman", and they were worried about Saruman putting a spell on him, and suddenly their dead friend was back, and that couldn't be a spell, nope, no way...)
And then! then! the horse comes, and Legolas says "That is one of the Mearas - unless my eyes are cheated by some spell."
AND IT'S NOT A SPELL. IT SO SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SPELL. IT WOULD HAVE MADE SO MUCH PLOTTY SENSE.
2) Theoden comes out from under Saruman's enchantment, and suddenly:
- drops about sixty years off his face
- can focus, talk to people, and pay attention to stuff
Wouldn't it be interesting if it happened the other way round? So, he'd looked totally normal, and been totally inactive and uninterested in the world, and then he came out of the enchantment, and the effort of doing so aged his looks but he could suddenly look attentive? So that, one way, you'd have a perfectly normal king with blank eyes, and the other way he'd look horrendous except for his expression which would suddenly be all active and kingly?
It would have been COOL.
