a lovely sound

After three ridiculously hot days, the storm has finally broken. We have every window in the house open, and I am sitting here in the cool, refreshing air, listening to the lovely sound of Aussie rain.

It sounds different here. Rain, I mean.

You see, we have this thing called corrugated iron, which makes up a rather large percentage of the roofs in this country. If you're standing anywhere near any kind of building, you are standing somewhere where you will hear rain falling on corrugation, every time it rains. It's a lovely sound. And not one I got to hear last year.

Tourism websites might talk up the landscapes and the marsupials, but my vote for Best Part of Australia is the sound of the storms.

I know what you mean- grew up in a house with a tin roof, then when I moved out of home, it was tile roofs in the suburbs...no rain sound. Very odd.
Now we have a proper roof again, and the rain does indeed sound lovely on it. :)
PS- I think the best part is when it's a hot day, and you suddenly hear the first few drops....then one more, then one more, then a few, and then...it buckets down. :)

I love the sound of rain on a metal roof.

Yes - no sound like it! Today I long-distance chatted with a friend in northern Victoria, as the fires got closer and she went over her 'watch and act' plans - and then came the wonderful, wonderful spattering of rain.

It is a lovely sound, otoh I discovered last week that sufficiently heavy hail makes it impossible to watch TV. I turned it up full volume and still couldn't make out what any of the characters were talking about!
