you should start a petition, or something

Seriously, Northern Hemispherites, you guys are missing out on all the good fast food. And the sad thing is, you don't even realise it.

KFC, for example. Their chips here are the same as the Maccas chips - ie, thin and kinda dry. Real KFC chips should be fat, moist, and yummily salty. They're awesome.

And Subway! How is it that none of the European Subways have grated carrot? Or chicken fillet? Or sweet chilli sauce?

You people are DEPRIVED.

I have never had a KFC. (Food shouldn't come in buckets.)

Nor set foot in a Subway. If I want cheap and rubbish, there's Greggs.

ETA: Am enjoying all your posts very much btw. Have been meaning to reply!

You ARE talking to the person who regularly buys lunch from Greggs... ;)

I read that as "You people are DERIVED" and thought "Well, I suppose we're all the product of US cultural influences, and - oh, there's a P there, nevermind."

ETA: On the other hand, you live in Germany now. You have access to Currywurst. I'd take that over KFC anyday.

KFC is prohibitively expensive here now. Why would anyone buy EXPENSIVE fast food? Well, except for Five Guys. They have locally sourced fries, so it's worth making an exception.

You can get the fatter and softer kind of chips at any fish and chips restaurant here. And at some of the more expensive burger chains.

If you want real chips you go to a chippy. KFC is mostly garbage, after all.

We don't think of the fries in KFC actually being chips - you get chips at the chippy...

I don't usually go near Subway - the wheat in the bread makes me really uncomfortable - but I'm pretty sure the one in Douglas has sweet chilli sauce and chicken breast.

I didn't even realize KFC had fries, though of course now that I think about it I guess they must. One gets mashed potatoes and gravy at KFC, not fries. But I looked up KFC fries online, and it looks like in the U.S. we have the same ones you have in Australia. Though I've never known anyone to get them.

I'm intrigued. Here in Aus people tend to visit one of these places and come out with a "meal" - a KFC burger or chicken pieces, plus chips, plus drink. Do you go there only for the chicken?
And here a "chippy" would be a carpenter :)
