SUNBURN

Half an hour in direct sunshine (the rest of the day under portable shade in the form of a parasol) and my arms are bright red.

The Aussie sun is not kind.




Went along the Eastlink freeway yesterday, for the second time since it opened. Wasn't driving, so I had the chance to look at the weird, weird scenery.

For some reason, the designers seem to have approached this construction less as a freeway and more as a piece of very long modern art. They have random things strewn all over the sides of the road, fluorescent green bridges over the top, and a... fake hotel?

Nothing yet to rival the world's biggest phallic symbol, out on the Tullamarine:



...but there's always time. And so much more empty freeway to experiment with.

I think the Washington Monument is actually a bigger phallic symbol, myself, but the yellow does add a certain je ne sais quoi. I also really dig the fake hotel.

Ah, but does any of this modern art blast a perpetually looped track of ABBA's "Dancing Queen"? (Liverpool is SO weird.)

I think the fake hotel is my favorite, for the sheer illogic of it. :)

I wish we had that kind of thing along boring interstate 95. Modern art certainly livens up the trip!
