I've been writing (or at least planning to write) a novel about a werewolf. Because of this, I've been doing some world-building. Because it's pretty hard to define what a werewolf is when the werewolves disagree with each other.
So I made a survey. And answered it, repeatedly. And here are the answers, for the interest of anyone who'd like to read them.

My name is Chris.
What is a werewolf?
Basically, I’m cursed. Every month I turn into a monster and try to hurt everyone around me.
How does the moon affect you?
The full moon turns me into a wolf. I get hungry, and aggressive, and attack anyone I see.
What is your true form?
I was a normal human. Now, I’m not sure.
Do you hunt?
Fuck no.
How does being a werewolf affect your life?
My house has a basement. Every full moon I lock myself in, and stay locked in until I’m human again.
Do you have a pack?
No.
Do you have a personal motto?
I need to keep myself from hurting anyone.
What is your strongest aspect?
I guess it takes strength of character to keep going, even with this curse.
What is your name?
My human name is Laura. My lupine name is Shadowpaw.
What is a werewolf?
We’re made different from those around us. Our wolf-selves are always a part of us, under the surface, making us unique.
How does the moon affect you?
The moon calls us to our true selves. Every time is rises, it calls to our wolf-selves, drawing them forth.
What is your true form?
I am both truly human, and truly wolf. Equal, opposite, balanced.
Do you hunt?
The full moon is the right time for hunting. No other time.
What do you hunt?
Wild prey. Mostly rabbits, deer, and other natural wildlife. We stay away from domestic animals, where possible.
How does being a werewolf affect your life?
It makes me more myself. And it gives me a new family.
Do you have a pack?
I’m a member of Soror Luna. The Boston branch.
What is your pack like?
They’ve been so encouraging! We run together every week, and we’re always there to help each other.
Do you have a personal motto?
Be who you’re meant to be.
What is your strongest aspect?
Being a werewolf enhances my senses. I think I’m more awake than a normal human.

What is a werewolf?
Werewolves are humans who’ve been bitten. It changes us in a lot of ways: physically, mentally, emotionally.
How does the moon affect you?
The full moon draws the “wolfy” parts of me out. I become wilder, more aggressive, more impulsive. I can always turn, but at the full moon I have to turn.
What is your true form?
My pack leader says our truest form is the beginning of shift. Mostly human, but with fangs and claws.
Do you hunt?
Hunting’s good, as long as you keep in control.
What do you hunt?
Not humans. Our instincts are drawn to animals that run – so, mainly rabbits and other wildlife.
How does being a werewolf affect your life?
I’ve had to learn a lot of techniques for self-control. And I need to schedule runs regularly, to let the wolf emerge.

Of course.
What is your pack like?
Honestly? They can be a pain. But they’ve taught me a lot.
Do you have a personal motto?
Knowledge is power. Self-control is self-knowledge.

I’m the fastest runner in my pack. I guess that’s something.

They’re decent enough. There’s a couple of good hunters in the mix.

The ultimate hunters. The true predators.
How does the moon affect you?
It removes our disguise, and shows us as we really are.

We’re part human and part wolf. Nothing and everything. So we’re at our truest at the midway point: with the dexterity and guile of a human, and the true hunger that drives a wolf.

Very, very well.

Humans, what else? A truly worthy prey.
How does being a werewolf affect your life?
It gives me purpose. My hunger drives me.

Six members. Our alpha is Marcus – he’s led us for four years.

The hunger within.

We’re humans, but with a few extras: high strength, enhanced senses, and the ability to heal from almost anything.
How does the moon affect you?
The phase of the moon changes how much I’m in control. I have to stay aware of which phase we’re in, and adapt.

Well, I’m still human. But I guess the wolf shows through.
Do you hunt?
No. But I run.

I have to think more strategically about things: not scheduling stuff on the full moon, living near parkland, keeping my instincts in check.
