attention US peeps!
So... a few weeks ago, the husband came home and told me about a new work opportunity.
My initial reaction was to curl up in a ball and cry. But then again, my initial reaction to anything new is to curl up in a ball and cry. Heck, you could offer me sunshine and puppies, and I would still freak out, shriek "No! Change!" and run away.
My second reaction was a bit more positive.
And, three weeks later, we've finally got the details a bit more sorted.
So...

I'm hoping to have time to travel the whole country. It'll be about my only real opportunity to ever see America, so I'm going to make the most of it.
I don't know very much about Michigan, or what is/isn't worth seeing. Any suggestions?

Also, everyone's talking about how cold it is, but it's not like Antarctica or something, and summers tend to be hot and humid. I don't know what the weather's like where you live in Australia, but in Michigan, the weather often changes drastically from one hour to the next. When I left Michigan, I thought it was weird how little people talked about the weather and only checked it once a day. Layers are your friend in all seasons -- it can get warm in February and cool in July.

Thanks for suggestions! *googles enthusiastically*

Jumping across the border, as brin_bellway suggests, is also a good idea. Lake Superior Provincial Park is gorgeous.

Why stop there? The US/Canada border is pretty open, and compared to cross-country trips, not that far away. (*ahem*)
(How do you feel about quinces? Because I'm not 100% convinced they really exist, and after a year on this continent you might start feeling the same.)

(Quinces? Never seen them, ever. Quite happy to join you in the not being convinced.)
