I have finally seen that scene from Two Cathedrals in its proper context.

Hurrah!

It is, in fact, a stellar episode, rather than just a stellar scene.

Hurrah some more!


It is quite weird watching Mrs Landingham being about to die, and her not knowing that it's going to happen, and me not knowing how it's going to happen but still knowing for sure that it will, because, after all, there's only half an episode until that scene, and... please don't die, Mrs Landingham! I love you! ...but on the other hand, she kind of has to, or that scene will never happen...

My favourite characters are CJ and Leo, because they are both terrific. My least favourite character is Sam, because he's idealistic and silly, and far too earnest for me. He's like a political version of Riley.

I absolutely love the Bartletts arguing. They've clearly been arguing for several decades, and are so used to each other's arguments that they keep skipping ahead by ten minutes or so. It's the arguing style of a couple that know each other inside out, and I sit there feeling soppy and romantic even though they're yelling.

Very much The American President in long drawn-out form, just like I expected. I keep noticing similar stuff. I also keep getting Leo's last name wrong - because it's "Leo Solomon from the GDC" that my brain goes to, every time.

I'm pretty certain that Bartlett's a two-term president. I'm sure of it. But, having just finished season two, I have no idea how he's going to manage it...

My problem with Sam is Rob Lowe's need to be the star in what's actually an ensemble show. Which is why he left.

Have you gotten to the mortifying internet bit yet? I can't remember if that was second season or third. tl;dr: Josh Lyman is Aaron Sorkin, and Aaron Sorkin cannot cope with a medium in which he does not control the narrative.

I love Jed/Abbey too. They're so warm, so clearly in the part of the relationship where it's a novel not a short story: they've long since moved past basic chemistry and on to architecture and geology, building for the long term. And that's something I don't see NEARLY often enough on TV - possibly it isn't deemed exciting enough.

Edited to add: did you hear the story about Obama's team in the run-up to the 2008 election? His Jewish staff held a Passover seder, and instead of saying "Next year in Jerusalem," one of them said "Next year in the White House!" It was such a wonderfully West Wing moment.

The Poet Laureate? Must be third season - I haven't seen it yet. (I've definitely heard about it...)

Lemonlymon dot com. I shudder at the memory. But I adore the series as a whole, even the later seasons generally speaking when fandom went a bit wibbly about it, as it always does.

Please to be fangirling. It's one of the few shows I watched to death but still rewatch with excitement.
