deird1: Sokka looking upset, with text "you're making me tearbend" (Sokka tearbend)

(yeah, I know it's old news to most of you...)

I've now reached the end of Leverage season 2, and Castle season 3.

Can anyone explain to me why the season ending of one is so much better than the other? Because I'm slightly baffled.

Both end with Team Father Guy taking a noble stand to protect his team, and being shot.

On Castle, he dies.
On Leverage, he just bleeds a bit and then (presumably) gets carted off to jail.

On Castle, he's protecting a cop from being shot by the gangsters who killed her mother.
On Leverage, he's protecting a bunch of thieves from a well deserved and long-time-coming jail sentence.

Looking at it logically, Castle's season ending should be the more moving and heartfelt of the two. But... it isn't.

I think it's the writing. It must be the writing. But I don't know exactly WHY.

I don't know about Castle, but with regards to Leverage s2, the finale is about Nate accepting who he has become. That he can be a good man as well as a thief, if you want a really good explanation listen to the episode commentary by John Rogers, writer and creator of Leverage who talks about it brilliantly.

I remember really loving the end of Leverage S2, but oddly since I've watched the Castle S3 finale more recently, I can say with certainty that I didn't find it lacking in emotion. Maybe it's just a personal reaction? Like one finale meets your tastes better than the other. My sense from Castle fandom at the time was that the finale was really loved.
