a sudden, inexplicable urge

I really want to see a movie villain who abhors killing people or putting them in physical pain.

Like – a villain, definitely. But restricted by his own moral code to outsmarting you, or misleading you, or tying you up in a dungeon and keeping you well fed, or framing you for a crime and getting you arrested...

You know, I would happily watch that. I have hit the point where I am so very over seeing torture and pain on TV (from villains or heroes) and smart, principled villains would be awesome.

I think that is the sort of villain they have in the show Father Brown a lot? there is lots of intelligent scheming and framing...but it's not a movie

Reminds me of The Flash when Captain Cold discovered his identity, and Flash says that since they're at an impasse, if he's so smart, figure out how to commit crimes without killing anyone. And it worked.
