--Things do seem to be changing a little (in NZ, I just assume Aussie's the same). I remember Star Trek used to be a few years behind, but these days a lot of the shows I watch seem to get to NZ within a year or even just a few months. But it's patchy.
Doctor Who has been forced to / been sensible enough to take the cue to adapt to changing times, so we can now get it within a couple of weeks -- occasionally even simultaneously. (I think the 50th anniversary special was 5-10 minutes late in NZ, which was a local ratings thing of PG-rated stuff not being allowed to start before a certain hour in the morning. Just enough to ruin the live-tweeting, but differential adbreaks would do that too.)
