In South Australia, we always used to put the Christmas tree up in mid-November, after the Christmas Pageant. We base everything Christmas around the pageant though. The pageant is also when stores put up their Christmas decorations, and the only "real" Father Christmas is the one who goes to the Magic Cave after the pageant. It's pretty huge.
